Suddenly my email is receiving hte same messages every time it updates, and I
cannot stop these same messages from re-appearing in my in box with every new
"Send/receive" update

You need to visit the website of your mail provider and delete what is
possibly a corrupt or very large mail.

What mac said, and you might want to extend the time you have set to check
for new messages to 10 minutes. If a download does not complete before the
next check, you will keep getting the same messages.

Sounds like your message store database is corrupted.
Try a manual run of the message store compaction. Go to Tools, Options,
Advanced, Maintenance, and change the "100" runs to 1. Close Windows Mail,
which will then prompt you to allow a compaction; do so, and let it complete.
When you reopen Windows Live Mail, be sure to change that setting back to
100 runs.
