import msg.files from external harddisk

Hi,

Our new computer vista home premium, I use windows mail as e-mail (no
outlook avaible because I only have Office home/studend edition).
On old computer (windows xp) I used Outlook, I copied al my e-mails to an
external harddisk, so now I try to open the mail (on ex. harddisk) and can't
open them because they are all msg files (?) I searched every where if it is
possible to open these files. If I change the extension to open them (e.g.
word etc.) it is still abacadabra for me. Maybe I had to change the
extension of the e-mails before I copied them to ex.harddisk??? Old computer
is gone already so I have a "problem" now.
I don't know I this is the right communitie, I hope some-one can help or
tell me where to go elswhere.
THX!
regards L4A

The only thing you can now do (AFAIK) is to convert all your *.msg files to
*.eml files, which you can drag into Windows Mail.
Do a google for "free msg to eml converters"

Adding a little to Gordon's post, you could also download, install, and
setup the Outlook 2007 Trial, move all your .msg files into Outlook, then
transfer from Outlook to Windows Mail. When finished, you can get rid of
the Outlook Trial.

Can you get just an Outlook trial? (The OP already has 2007 Home and
Student....presumably a purchased copy. Would not downloading a trial of
another version of Office cause complications?)

Or an older version of Outlook.
