import 2000 pst into 2007 outlook now 2007 will only allow 2 gig

Have new computer Vista Ultimate. At first installed Office XP and loaded my
outlook files. Have now purchased an Office 2007 upgrade and installed it. I
now seem to still be stuck with a 2 gig file limit. How can I change this.
Get the message maximun file size reached and it will not allow any new
emails or even to delete anything. Archive also at the 2 gig file limit.

Outlook 2007 should alow biger file size than 2 gig.

I suspect you didn't _import_ that old PST, but simply opened it with
File>Open>Outlook Data File. The old format PST has a 2GB limit no matter
which version of Outlook opens it. You'll need to convert it to the newer
Unicode format if you want to exceed 2GB. See this:

Outlook 2007 does allow a higher data file size, but only if using the
default unicode data file.
Upgrading an earlier version to 2007 does not upgrade the existing data
file.
Within Outlook, creat a new data file in default format (File>New>Data File)
Copy old data to this
Use the mail applet in the control Panel, or data management shortcut if you
have one on the desktop, to set this new data file as the default msg store

Removed all versions of Office (uninstall) moved the old.pst file to a
different location and renamed it then reinstalled Office 2007. Did a clean
setup of the email settings then imported the old pst file. Same problem 2
gig limit.

No mail applet in control panel. Tried creating a new data file but still
have the same problem. Have run scanpst to make sure the file is good and it
was. Have done this many times and never had this problem. Found Google file
index stopped Outlook from loading correctly. Had to remove Google file index
and then started the process all over - removing office - installing office -
setting up the email account - importing the old pst file and again a 2 gig
limit. This is a new HP, do you know if any of the junk software HP includes
could cause this problem?

Yes there is. I suspect you're using Vista 64 bit. For that you must
choose "Enable 32 bit Control Panel" in order to see it.

Look under %ProgramFiles% or %CommonProgramFiles% for MLCFG32,CPL and run
it.

Removed Office 2007 restarted computer installed office 2003 imported the
office XP file and everything is now working correctly, file 3 gig in size
with the additional data imported. Something, who knows what was causing 2007
not convert the file when importing the data. May try to upgrade to 2007 from
2003 when I have time. Thank for all of the suggestions but as you know
Microsoft does as Microsoft does.

And 2003 uses tha same native format data file as 2007

PS Niether is Import/Export the correct method to deal with native Outlook
data, as posted here daily

confirm that an older version did exist. The install was clean. The problem
happened when the older file was imported into the new functioning Outlook
2007. Using this same procedure with outlook 2003 on the same computer it
worked as it should. We have done this more times with both 2003 and 2007
than I can remember and never had a problem except this time.

Importing ALWAYS leaves some of the data out and ALWAYS alters some of the
data being imported. To bring data into Outlook, just open the PST. You
don't import a DOC file into Word, do you?
