"If it ain't broke don't fix it"

Beta 1 version 1.0.701 (with the December update) works until July 31 2006.

I would suggest keeping it.

My system experianced a significant slow down after installing Windows
Defender and I found the previous interface contained many useful features
(including control of updates) that are now missing.

I revereted back to Microsoft AntiSpyware Version: 1.0.701 and will wait
until the bugs and omissions are taken care of with Windows Defender. Version
1.0.701 worked well and I feel "If it ain't broke don't fix it".

Note: If you are having trouble reverting back to Version 1.0.701 because it
says that it expired in December 2005, there is an update in the C:\Program
Files\Microsoft AntiSpyware\TempUpdates (or whereever you installed it) dated
in December 2005 that you can install again and you will have Beta 1 until
July 31 2006.

On the other hand my system boots up a little faster (about 4 scrolls of the
blue bar on the Win XP Splash screen) and seems a little faster in operation
as well.

I installed Windows Defender on a machine where I restored a hard disk image
from before installing Microsoft AntiSpyware so it was a clean installation.
So far I have not experienced any of the errors and other issues I came
across systems on which I had Microsoft AntiSpyware.

Computer: Gateway M275 TabletPC
OS: Windows XP TabletPC Edition 2005.

To each his own. I had problems with the auto-update feature of
MSAS, and I believe it was responsible for error messages I encountered with
Outlook Express. Since installing Windows Defender, those problems are
gone. At least, so far.

I am also of the group that the install went well and it does not cause me
any issues to this point. I uninstalled the Beta 1 to install this one (no
upgrade over top for me.

I have to agree with the subject of this post, while I have no specific speed
issues with the new 'defender' code, I prefer the functionality of the
original 'antispyware' code, many great features have been removed. Yes, I
know how to access that data by fighting with the OS to get it, but it's so
much nicer to open one program and have it all there. IMHO, a bad move,
please give us the original functionality back MS !

I agree. There were a lot of usefull features in the previous version which
I'm going to miss. I want them back. I want them back so much Defender is
history first thing in the morning. I'm rolling back to AntiSpyware - what
does Defender mean anyway? I'd thought that for once the marketing nerds had
let the programming nerds call a product by a name that described what it
does - it's why I downloaded it in the first place.

i'm another user who went back to "antispyware". Beta 1 seems to me to be
better than Beta 2. go figure.

btw, this website does not like firefox too much.

Hello Barbos,

first, the defender is better, without the things that already are done
better with other programs from other resellers!
Then use Mozilla Thunderbird for newsgroup reading!
