Iexplore.exe Using 99% CPU

I have Internet Explorer 7 installed on Windows XP.

This problem started about a week ago, I think. I open IE 7 to a web page - CNN.com is a good example. As soon as I right-click on a link and select 'Open in New Tab' IE 7 freezes and iexplore.exe shoots up to 99% of CPU time. Only way out is to kill IE 7 through Task Manager.

My first thought was: malware. Got to be a first time for everyone. But I'm pretty sure I am malware-free. (Kaspersky Internet Security 6 is my security suite and I checked that with online scans from Panda, TrendMicro and Symantec.)

I'll be grateful for anyone's help.

Does it do this for every link you try to open or does it happen sort of
randomly?

I really can't tell. I haven't been experiencing this problem long enough.
