IExplore error message???

I keep getting kicked off the internet after this message
appears after being on for between 5 and 20 minutes. The
message says:

IExplore has caused an error in USER.EXE.

I explore will now close.

It then suggests to restart the computer to clear the
problem but that does nothing. When I close the box, I am
off the internet again. Any ideas folks would be greatly
appreaciated. I see several others have had similar type
messages here but no answers yet. Is it a virus or what do
you think?
