IEEE 1394/Ethernet Conflict

We installed a 1394 card so that we could connect to a
digital video camera for use with editing software
(Pinnacle Studio DV version 8). However when this card is
installed, we lose the ethernet connection to our home
network and the internet. Disabling the IEEE 1394 device
under network adapters does not help nor any other efforts
we've made to restore the connection through
Troubleshooting, etc. There is not a network bridge
between the two either.

I have had this same problem with both a video capture
card and 1 1394 card. When you attach a camera a new
Local Area Connection is created, which automatically
gets removed when you reboot. However, it screws up the
DHCP client service. The only way to solve it that I
have found is to do a restore to an earlier point prior
to the video capture.

It is even worse for me as the connection gets created
during the installation of my ATI capture card.

Microsoft has a hotfix for it as described in Microsoft
Knowledge Base Article - 822596, but they may charge you
a support fee to get it, as noted in the article.

I finally got this problem resolved with the help of a couple of Microsoft
Support Pros. Finally decided I must have a corrupt Winsock/Winsock 2
install per KB 817571. Using method 1, I deleted the registry entries and
reinstalled TCP/IP over itself. All is fine and I can use my camera at will
without loosing my ethernet connection. Hope this helps.
