IE6SP1 crashes on Win98; Ad-Aware used but no change

Hi folks
Clearly in common with many others, I've upgraded from IE5.5 to IE6, only to find it crashing with irritating regularity on sites that were never a problem before. Today, I've had it crash on a site that I used to be able to browse until a few weeks earlier, even with IE6, and I'm getting fed up.
Can anyone please explain:
1. why these crashes occur ? some people apparently do understand this and have been able to rectify the problem.
2. why these crashes never occurred in IE5.x ?
3. I know IE5 is now in extended support (euphemism or what!); still, can I get hold of IE5.5 to install back on my PC?
4. I'm considering upgrading this Win98 PC to WinXP; am I likely to have similar issues with XP?

Thanks in advance for all help.

Without details of the error message? Sorry but I can't explain or rectify.

You can get it from third party sites (not from IE) - information is
available at the URL below:

Without details of the error messages I can't give you an answer.
