Internet Explorer crashes on certain web pages

Hello all. I am having problems with Internet Explorer on
Windows Me.

The PC hung and I had to force a shutdown by holding the
power switch. Since then Internet Explorer hangs on
certain web pages. Also, the subsequent error report
won't send.

I have deleted the internet history and temporary files
(including offline content).

The first time the problem occured, I was running IE5.5
and got the following error message - "Iexplore has caused
an error in wininet.dll IE will now close".

I have searched MS support for instances of this error
message and tried several potential fixs, including
upgrading to IE5.5 SP2 and then IE6 to try to rectify
things.

I believe the problem is in wininet.dll, but am not sure
if that would be fixed by upgrading Internet Explorer?

The version of wininet.dll is 6.0.2800.1106

Any suggestions anyone can make would be greatly
appreciated. I am about to start looking at the MS error
report!
