IE6 / Patch Problem

B

BF

HI

Im trying to install cumalative patch Q316059.exe but when I open it
to install, a message window opens saying "This update requires
Internet Explorer 6.0 to be installed".

But I already have IE 6.0 installed.

I use IE 6 everyday, so why do I get a message suggesting that I do
not have IE 6?

Thanks for any help

Are you trying to access this patch from Windows Update, or from Windows
downloads? If it isn't detected in the scan from Windows Update site, you
don't need it. Furthermore, if one downloads it (successfully) from Windows
downloads, it can quite possibly *break* an update you already have.

That patch is over 2 years old, it has more than likely been superseded by a
later Cumulative Update.

You're welcome BF. It is always best to let Windows Update determine if your
PC has a need for the update. I know that when something happens in one's PC
and you must re-install IE for example, you'll see in your Update History a
list of previously installed updates. In the attempt to get things back to
"the way they were" one is falsely tempted to install all the original
updates. That is a vain and dangerous thing to do as one would need to
install them in *precisely* the right sequence. WU knows what is needed for
the present state of affairs on your machine, and the present issue of
updates (and bug fixes for previous updates).
