IE6 Major pop up concerns

Phil

When I start IE6 after a while a window filling the
entire screen asking me to "search the web" comes up. It
fills the screen and has no presence on the taskbar
below. I have adjusted some site's security to restricted
to try and stop it but it remains. My toolbar at the top
of IE6 won't stay as I set it. It always reverts to a
format I don't want regardless of whether I lock it or
not. Also, when my home page loads, the search button is
depressed on the toolbar and a search window is present
at the left side offering one to "search the web".

Any suggestions anyone? I am lost with this.

I feel for you on this - I just wnet through this. It looks like your
browser has been hijacked by a nasty of some sort, perhaps DotComToolBar or
something like it. Honestly, why is it still legal for illegitimate
companies to foist damaging software on our computers?

I was able to fix my browser & registry using "SpyBot Search & Destroy" and
then "JavaCool's SpywareBlaster". You can get "Search & Destroy" at
http://www.safer-networking.org/, and Spyware Blaster at
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html. Install them both, then
run "Search and Destroy" first. You can then launch "Spyware Blaster" from
inside of "Search & Destroy".

Also, consider getting LavaSofts's AdAware for cleaning up those nasty
cookies and other spyware files. And for pop-ups (damn them to hell)
Panicware's Pop-Up Stopper is awesome.

Good luck with this!
