IE6 in WinXP "Search Page Cannot be opened"

Using XP diagnostics and ping I find I have working connections to my LAN and
the
internet (I can ping URL and get return [www.yahoo.com etc.] but when I enter
URL in Internet Explorer I get "Internet Explorer could not open search page"
Do I need to reinstall IE and what are the steps to do the reinstall ??

Try this winsock repair tool;
WinsockXP Fix- WinXP http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
Also, with instructions, at http://www.iup.edu/house/resnet/winfix.shtm

Whether or not WinsockXP Fix resolves the problem, you should check for
malware. Try CWShredder, Ad-aware, Spybot and the other programs listed and
explained at http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm Also note the security
tips on that page.

You may have to run WinsockXP Fix after removing malware.
