ie6.browser not displaying the correct web page

my internet explorer doesn't go to the url the I type in
for the address. ex. if I type www.yahoo.com it will take
me to a search page (We can't find "www.yahoo.com") the
only way I can get to yahoo if I type http://www.yahoo.com
then It will go to the page. I can't just type
www.yahoo.com I have to type everything. I tried using
netscape and it works fine so I know it is just my ie6
browser.
