IE6 has to close ... oleaut32.dll

J

Jean-P.

Having a lot of problems IE6 crashes while accessing certain websites
after a few minutes (e.g. Swedish auction website Tradera.com, Dutch auction
website Qoop.nl etc..).

IE6 Error Report headers says :
AppName: iexplore.exe
AppVer: 6.0.2800.1106
ModName: oleaut32.dll
Offset: 0006ac21
ModVer: 2.40.4518.0

I have a simular problem tring to play Windows Media Player files (...has to
close...oleaut32.dll).

So I think there is something wrong with oleaut32.dll ???

What does "it" do and how can it disturb both IE6 and win media ???

Using IE6 on Win98SE
Checkes for spyware etc...
Hardware accell.turned all the way down...

Please help, driving me crazy...

Go to Start/run, and type SFC (msconfig for Win2K or WinXP).
Choose 'Extract One File From Installation Disk'.
Type oleaut32.dll, not worrying about its location. Then, click Start.

Next to 'Restore From', type in or browse for the file's location, which is
probably in the Win98 folder of your installation CD-ROM (typically
D:\Win98), or in your Windows\Options\Cabs folder, as the case may be.

Then, next to 'Save File In', enter C:\Windows\System, and click OK. System
File Checker looks for the file, saves it as you requested, and then tells
you that 'the file has been successfully extracted'.

You may need to reboot.

Restored oleaut32.dll from the Windows\Options\Cabs folder

Reboot :
While rebooting got another message about an invalid file and Windows
restored
a "reserve" copy or something.

Reboot again :
Fatal Exception OE on 0028:C0005338
in VXDVMM01 + 00004338

AAAHGGGRHR

Restart :
again fatal exception etc....

Just unplugged the computer for about 15 minutes...

Restarted, is up and running for now...

I hope it stays this way, will have to test the auction sites.

Any idea what the Fatal Exception is about ???

A Fatal Exception 0E (that's a zero, not an 'Oh') usually indicates s driver
problem.

B. You may need new video drivers. Check the site for your video board
manufacturer. Meanwhile you can do the following:
1. Use the default mouse pointers.
2. Turn down your color depth. (Right click the desktop and choose
Properties | Appearance | Settings) Some people find that increasing color
depth helps.
3. Turn down your graphics hardware acceleration. (For Win 98, Start |
Settings | Control Panel | System | Performance | Graphics button) You will
see little, if any, performance degradation.
4. Turn off your desktop wallpaper.

If these make the problem go away you need new video drivers.

If you have an ATI video board, try adding these lines to System.ini

DevBMP=0 <--- That's a zero

From a previous post, check it out.

From:steven watson
I installed win98 and when I turn it on sometimes it will come up with the
error on a blue screen "A fatal exception OE has occurred at 0028:C0005338
in VXD VMM(01) + 00004338
Press any key to continue". When I press any key it goes blank or shuts off.
After I let it sit for a while then it will come back on.

Try this go to Start/Run menu and type
msconfig and click OK. On the General Tab click the Advanced button and
check the box to Disable Fast Shutdown.
thanks. It has worked so far.
