IE6 Hangs

I recently started having a response time issue with IE6
called non-response. I have Yahoo.com as my default home
page and I have no problem getting to the site. I can
access sites without too much content, but when I go to an
ebay.com for instance, my browser hangs with very little of
the page displayed. If I close the browser, terminate my
internet connection and open up a new one, I cannot reach
any sites due to very slow response. I have to reboot in
order to get to any sites. Netscape works great and I can
go anywhere I want on the net and no site access issues at
all. I've since set Netscape as my default browser which
is great until my wife uses Outlook to access her email and
a link to an ebay.com like site is accessed from an email
and guess what - system hang time.

Any suggestions on the IE issue? I'm running Windows ME
with all the latest updates installed. IE has had all its
shots and is current. I've checked for the QHosts virus
and I'm clean. No hits on MS Knowledge base hits either.

How can I set Outlook to use Netscape as the default browser?

Thanks in advance for any insight to this pain in the
wahzoo, spent too much time already trying to resolve issue!!!

I've been having the same problem. Here's what I've
discovered so far..am running WIN XP Pro and use
taskmaster to check processes when IE hangs and find that
there are two and sometimes three intances of IE6
running. When I end those all but one instance of IE6
everything is fine until it happens again. I've been
unable to associate this with any specific action. I've
searched MS support and the only item I can find is
Knowledge Base 816769 article which runs me around in
circles.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, JerryP

I have been reading several other IE6 issues and I see
several several issues possibly caused by parasites.
There are references to Spybot S&D and AdAware. That's my
next step. You might want to give that a try as well.

I had a very similar problem and just got it straightened out. This may work
for you. Open ie6, go to tools, internet options, advanced, uncheck enable
third party
browser extensions. Close and reopen ie6 and see if it acts as it should. If
it works then you might have a bho (browser helper object) that installed
itself. That's what I had. I found the bho and disabled it with BHODemon.
You can find it at http://www.definitivesolutions.com/bhodemon.htm .It's
free. After that you should be able to recheck the enable third party
browser extensions button incase you have any bho's you want. In my case the
google tool bar is a bho and won't work without enabling third party
extensions. This problem had been bugging me for about the last month until
I stumbled on what it was last night so I figured I'd share
what I found. I don't know if it has anything to do with your problem but my
ie6 is screaming now on my dsl line. Latest adaware and spybot didn't detect
the
bho's either.
Good luck

Steve those were good suggestions however there was really no reason to post
it six times. Maybe you have a problem with your newsreader.

And don't use your real email address in any newsgroup. That is an open
invitation to the spammers.

WiseGuy,
I posted once and noticed my email address in the post so I canceled the
message and changed my address. When I reposted I got an error saying there
was a problem and the message wasn't sent. I tried a couple different things
to get the message through but kept getting an error. It looks like the
messages did send even though my error message said they didn't. A little
while later I saw the 6 posts and deleted all but one. My outlook express
only shows one post there from me. Did you maybe download the others before
I deleted them or are they still there and they're not
showing for me. I don't do the newsgroups much and don't use outlook much
either so I have a
little learning to do here. Thanks for letting me know about my screwup.
