IE6 and FireFox

I am having trouble viewing certain websites that I was able to view before.
Such as:

Microsoft.com, yahoo, Ebay and a few others. Some cites saved in my
favorties work and some don't. Even if I type the address in the URL box this
is what occurs:
Each site will try to open but will just sit there loading with just three
bars and will continue to just lag for about 4-10min. or so. And then I get
incomplete pages as it tries to load. It just freezes. I try the same sites
on my other computer and no problems. They load quickly. The same thing
happens when I use Firefox web browser. I did a virus scan, spyware, adware,
winsock.exe and nothing is working.
Can anyone assist me with this issue? Thank you.

Hi Frank,

No I haven't posted my Hijack This log. If this is something I must do,
then I will today. Last time I had a problem with my computer, I sent this
log in and never received a response. But I will do it later because I am not
at that computer at the moment.

Fuzzy Logic

Hi,
Yes.....as I have stated, WinXP and Firefox have the same issue listed
below.

Sounds like something has messed with your HOSTS file. Here is a bit of
info:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=172218
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/reskit/en-
us/Default.asp?url=/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/reskit/en-
us/prjj_ipa_tyjo.asp

(second link is pretty long and has wrapped)

A quick fix would be to simply rename the file and see if that fixes the
problem.

Hi,
Since both IE and Firefox are affected, the possibilities are kind of
limited. It's apparently not just an IE problem.

Try opening a Cmd window (or from Start> Run) enter
ipconfig /flushdns
then clear the Temporary Internet Files and restart.

Have you tried disabling third-party programs such as anti-virus, firewall,
ad-blockers, etc? One of those programs may be causing the problem. Before
disabling a third-party firewall, I would turn on the Windows firewall.

Have you tried a complete shutdown for about 5 minutes, including modem
(cable or DSL) router, all computers?
