IE won't download from HTTPS

I am attempting to download a file from a site through HTTPS. Everytime I do
I receive a message saying that "Internet Explorer was not able to open this
Internet site".

I mentioned this to a friend and he told me he didn't have a problem. The
only difference we identified was that he is running Firefox. I contacted the
site maintainer and he set up a couple of tests for me.

As it stands, the file can be downloaded by either browser through HTTP. If
the transfer is through HTTPS, it works under Firefox but not IE.

Any ideas as to what might be causing this? I'm running IE6 under XP sp2.

You might want to try to go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced and see
if under Security you have Use SSL 2.0 and Use SSL 1.0 check boxes checked.

Did you find the answer to this without going to firefox browser? I have the
same problem with my banking website which is very frustrating. My only
answer is to go to firefox. The sugestions by kavlus did not work.

You can't download a file or you can't visit the site?
