IE shuts down with Runtime Error

I have Windows XP HOme Edition. I have run a Norton 2005 system scan,
adware, deleted spyware and temporary internet files. Ever since I
downloaded the Service pack 2 from Microsoft I have been getting this error:

Runtime Error
Program C:program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE
abnormal program termination
It then knocks me offline and back to the desktop. It happens sporatically
when online and I am now getting another error:

Error loading
winupd.dll (or sometimes it's wincore.dll)
The specified module could not be found.

WHat is this and how do I fix it? I feel like it is connected to the
service pack 2 somehow but I can't be sure. I just want it to stop! Please
advise.....

Run Ad-ware (fully updated)
http://www.lavasoftusa.com
Configure for a Full Scan >
http://forum.aumha.org/viewtopic.php?t=7933

If no joy, run SpyBot Search & Destroy (fully updated)
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

If still no joy, run CWShredder >
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip
Close all Browser Windows and running applications >
Unzip the tool > click on the executable and follow the prompts.

If still no joy, run "HijackThis" > FAQ and download >

Post your "HijackThis" log to one of the following Forums for expert
analysis, not here.
