IE Not Responding, etc.

I recently loaded XP on my computer. I tried to open up IE and it will
not connect to any sites. I have no problems doing this with Mozilla,
so I know it's not the computer.

Someone suggested I go to the repair option in add/remove programs. IE
does not show up there. I downloaded the ie6 setup file from MS' web
site but it tells me I have a newer version already installed.

I can't get it to work, I can't repair it, and I can't install it. Any
suggestions for solving this riddle?

Thanks for any help.

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.net/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post

I have Ad-Aware, Spybot, and AVG installed and running. No viruses,
etc. As I said, Mozilla connects fine, but IE doesn't.

Is it something in the IE connectivity items that might be the problem?
I tried the XP repair option, no success. If I could, I'd remove IE
and reinstall, but I can't get it to appear in the add/remove programs
list.

Any other suggestions welcome.

Is WinXP SP2 installed? Is the machine fully patched at Windows Update? Is
the Windows Firewall or a third-party firewall enabled?
I have Ad-Aware, Spybot, and AVG installed and running. No viruses,

That does not necessarily mean the machine's free of hijackware and Trojans:

Mozilla connects fine, but IE doesn't.

This is often the case when Windows has been compromised by hijackware,
Trojans or a security vulnerability.

Reinstalling IE won't help if Windows is infected and vulnerable but here's
some info anyway:
