IE Freezes on trying to download a pdf

Everytime I try to download a pdf, Adobe Acrobat (v6)takes
ages to appear and when it does the window stays blank and
IE 6 freezes & I have to resort to ALT+CNTL DEL to stop IE
which is not responding. It might be something to do with
security settings on IE but I am not sure what they need
to be. I also have Zone Alarm but no window ZA window pops
up before the Acrobat window appears. Can some one help?

Issue
When you try open an Adobe PDF file in a Web browser, a blank screen
appears.
Detail
The PDF file is hosted on a Web Server that uses Netegrity SiteMinder for
security.
