IE download problem

Hi,

On one of my laptops cannot download any files over internet. I have XP2
with the latest patches. Unchecking "Internet Explorer Downloads" on defender
tools-->general settings-->real-time protection options menu did not solve
the problem on my machine. Files are stuck at the IE temp folder, they are
somehow blocked by defender. I have seen several posts but no real solution.
Any quick recommendations else than a complete defender beta 2 uninstall?
Should I e-mail to mtreit @ microsoft. com as suggested?
thanks,
- yinal

p.s. If this is a defender security feature that would be nice to block
firefox downloads too, firefox can download any programs with defender..

Defender version:
Windows Defender Version: 1.1.1051.0
Engine Version: 1.1.1303.0
Signature Version: 1.14.1396.12

IE version:
7.0.5355.5 (didn't work on IE6 as well)

I have ISS Proventia Firewall.

YINAL:
In one of your computers try Windows Live OneCare free for the rest of
April. It:

By default, Tune-up removes the following types of files when this task is
turned on:
Unnecessary program installation files, ActiveX controls and Java applets
downloaded from the Internet
Windows temporary files
Temporary Internet files
Microsoft Error Reporting temporary files
Microsoft Office temporary files
Temporary offline files

Efrain,
What is the relationship between OneCare and the Defender for my problem? Do
you mean it solves my "IE file save" problem? Did you try it? Or are you just
giving general advice about deleting temp files ?:)
I installed and then deleted OneCare firewall before trying defender beta 2.
iOneCare had serious issues. I have tendency to think that this problem might
be related with the previous onecare installation.

I am sure you have done this before but: in IE Tools>Internet Options>
General tab>and in Temporary Internet files you Delete Cookies, Delete
Filesand offline content. After doing this you click Settings and View Files,
the Temporary Internet Files folder should be empty.

Do you have Messenger Plus 3 installed?

Also, If you are running SP2, open IE--->Tools--->Manage Add-ons, and
uncheck any BHO's that you don't recºgnize.
