IE Downlaad

R

Roy

I scrolled through some of the messages and came across one
from Don Varnau that discussed how to download IE. So I
went to http://www.broomeman.com/support/wsiedown.html and
downloaded ie6setup.exe from there. I then followed the
site's instructions in Step 3, 4, 5, and 6.

I got a message that the file is downloaded in
c:\winnt\Windows Update Setup Files. When I went there I
did not fine any ie6setup.exe file.

So I just went back to c:\downloads and double-clicked on
ie6setup.exe.

I installed Internet Explorer; however, the shourt cut on
the Desktop that it installed does not work. It also did
not install Internet Explorer shortcut in the tray. Nor
did it install Outlook Express in the tray. What I have in
the tray in a blank square that says Launch Internet
Explorer Browser when I place my cursor over it.

When I double click on the blank square, it says it is
searching for something (I forget exactly what it says) but
does not launch the browser.

Can someone offer me some advice on how I can fix this
problem.

BTW, I am using Windows 2000 Professional 5.00.2195 SP4.

Roy,
If you double-click on IEXPLORE.EXE (probably) in the [Program
Files\Internet Explorer] folder, does IE open? If you right-click
IEXPLORE.EXE and create a shortcut on the desktop, does that shortcut work?

I see you download IE 6 from a non microsoft site. You should always download Internet Explorer from microsoft.com. Here is the link http://www.microsoft.com/ie

I'm encountering another problem. I hava JAVA SDK 1.4.x
downloaded. Netscape has no problem bringing up sites that
require a JVM, but IE says I need to install a JVM.

Any advice?????????

You may just need to create a new shortcut to IE. Find iexplore.exe,
right-click it. Drag it to the desktop and choose "Create shortcut here."
You should then be able to drag that shortcut onto the Quicklaunch bar.

In Control panel > Java, have you associated Java with IE? In Internet
options> Advanced, is Java checked, and MS VM unchecked except for JIT
compiler enabled?
