XP with SP2. IE does not browse the web. Outlook does
receive emails from the web, Mozilla does browse the web,
Messenger does connect to the web, Real Player does stream
on the web but IE does not browse the web.

This means that I cannot download any updates (can't do
that with Mozilla).

Reinstalled WindowsXP from the CD (selected Repair Windows
during the reinstallation).

After reinstallation - the same problem exists. Now I
can't download SP2 (need IE to do that).

A fix would be wonderful, but I guess I really just wanted
to vent. Wasted 6 hours of a public holiday trying to fix
this, with the sun shining outside etc. etc.

Hi,
Is there an error message? What is IE doing or not doing?

Have you run an up to date antivirus program?

How about checking for other malware? Work through the solutions
(CWShredder, Ad-aware, Spybot) at
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm Also note the security tips on that
page.

After removing malware, try this Winsock repair tool:
WinsockXP Fix- WinXP http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html

Hope this helps,
