IE Delay when address is keyed in

There is about a minute delay when I key a URL address in IE. Favorites,
links, homepage, etc. works fine. The delay is only when the address is hand
keyed.

Please help. It is really getting frustrating.

Hi,
If Autocomplete is turned on, a corrupted History folder could be causing
this. Delete the History folder using the appropriate (for your OS)
instructions at http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

Or, you may have malware installed (adware, spyware, hijackers.)
See these sites for help:

Hi Ken,

Disable your browser helpers (toolbars) to see if that makes a difference.
For nonxp and xp machines - Tools>Internet Options - Advanced tab - uncheck
'Enable third-party browser helper objects'
or
For Xp machines - Tools>Manage Add-ons - selectively disable your toolbars
and BHO (Browser Helper Objects)

If you find that disabling a toolbar fixes the problem then you should
probably un-install that toolbar. Slow typing in the IE Address bar usually
indicates that some other program (add-in for IE) is pre-processing the
keystrokes (basically spying on your surfing habits)

I know this is a long shot as it's some time ago, but did you get this fixed
or not ?

My Dell laptop has *always* behaved like this with IE6 as far as I can
remember. It's never a problem with Firefox which I tend to use for preference

Turn off autocomplete of web addresses in two places:
Tools...Internet Options...Content tab...Autocomplete
Tools...Internet Options...Advanced tab...Browsing section...Use inline
Autocomplete.

See if that helps. If it does, and you want to keep using that feature,
repost.
