IE address bar - can't delete google queries

I routinely clear my internet explorer history and also clear forms, but for
some reason there are 5 miscellaneous google searches from a couple of weeks
ago that persist. They always appear as drop down list whenever I type
"www.g" in the address bar. All other URLs are successfully deleted,
including all my other google searches. For some reason these particular 5
searches are being remembered.

I used regedit to check HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\TypedURLs. The offending URLs are not listed there.

What's going on?

I discovered that there are also a handfull of non-google URLs that have also
persisted beyond all efforts to clear the history. For instance, if I type
"www.i" in
the address bar, an old infoworld URL appears.
