IE 6 Won't Open

J

John

I have Internet Explorer 6 and since yesterday(1/17/04)
have been unable to open it. I keep getting "Microsoft has
encountered a problem and needs to close". I am running on
Windows 98, using Netgear wireless router on Earthlink
modem. I have tried Ad-aware 6.0, Spybot-Search&Destroy,
and Avast Antivirus. I found Alexa and Aornum bugs and
removed them. I removed IE 6, loaded Netscape 7, then
downloaded IE6 again. I tried opening and got the same
message above. I just noticed my clock had wrong date &
time, I corrected that, restarted, same thing. Any Ideas??

John,
From Internet Options, uncheck "Enable third party browser extensions." If
that helps, there's probably still malware of some type that you haven't
found.
Since Ad-aware and Spybot failed, try CWShredder from
http://www.merijn.org/downloads.html
If that fails, go to HijackThis Quick Start http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/
Read the instructions, run HijackThis and post a log to the forum at
spywareinfo.com

Also, repairing IE might help.

Hope this helps,
