IE 6 History Not Displayed

D

Dan M.

I can no longer successfully display the URL history in
IE 6. When I click the history icon the history pane is
displayed on the left side of the screen. The "folder"
representing the current day is displayed. Sometimes the
same type of folder for several days prior to the current
day are also displayed. However, these never have any URL
history content when opened. I have noticed that when I
click on the "Most Visited" view, I do see URLs I'd
previously visited displayed.

I suspect there may be some interaction occuring with the
McAfee VirusScan 6.0 software I have installed. When I
removed that software, the IE 6 history function began
working properly as it onced used to.

Microsoft knowledge base article #819257 suggests there
may be some interaction with some type of ActiveX
blocking function of McAfee's VirusScan application.

Has anyone else experienced this? How was this issue
resolved???

It's a common problem. Turn off the ActiveX part of McAfee's Internet
Filter.

How do I turn off the ActiveX part of McAfee's Internet Filter? In
Virus Scan V6 there is a checkbox that when "checked" enables the
internet filter. Is there a way in Virus Scan to have the internet
filter function enabled with the ActiveX part turned off?

By the way, when I unchecked the Virus Scan internet filter function,
I was then able to view my URL history.

I don't know. I don't allow McAfee or Norton into the building.

Dan,
Disable the entire Internet Filter feature. Go to
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm for some recommended security
settings. In fact, use the Select a Tip box at the top of the page to access
additional useful information.

Also, if you're using E-mail scan (McAfee) with Outlook Express there's a
good chance that all messages in your Inbox will disappear someday. You
should disable that feature also.
