IE 6 Errors Then Crashes, WIN98

G

Guest

I'm running Windows 98 and IE 6. I've run Viruscan and everything is cool
there. I used the fixes listed in this news group for Win 98 and XP and
nothing has resolved the problem. I've uninstalled IE 6 and tried the repair
tool, but no success there either.

The problem actually began after a crash that occured while I was working in
Frontpage Express. Anyway, do I have any other options? Would any of the paid
PC repair downloads from like PCbugdoctor resolve this issue?

Thanks,
Dylan

Hi,
What are the symptoms? Specific error messages? What have you tried in
addition to repair/reinstall?

Hi Don,

The symptons are that at any time during surfing the following error message
occurs:

This program has performed and illegal operation and will be shut down.
Details:
IEXPLORE caused an invalid page fault in
module <unknown> at 0000:44334c52.

After you close that out this message comes up:

An error has occurred in Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer will now
close. If you continue to experience problems, please restart your computer.

Sometimes it happens when opening a new page, other times it's just random.

Here are some of the fixes I've tried (besides unistalling IE and the IE
repair tool)

1)
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
Winsockfix for W95, W98, ME, NT, 2000, XP
http://www.tacktech.com/pub/winsockfix/WinsockFix.zip
Directions here: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=257
WinXP:

2)
Apply couple of patches to delete and reinstall the Winsock from registry:

Delete existing winsock entries:
http://www.onecomputerguy.com/reg/xp_del_winsock.reg

Import the correct registry entries
http://www.onecomputerguy.com/reg/win98_winsock.reg

Usage: Double-click the file and answer and YES when prompted.

Thanks,
Dylan

First eliminate any spyware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:
