IE 6 Child windows & update and reinstall problems

Windows XP
1st problem. When I click on a link that opens a child or
pop up window (such as the New Post Button). The child
window opens but is transparent in the middle and never
shows anything.
2nd Windows update gives me the ability to "Scan for
Updates", then the option to "Review & Install", the the
button to "Install Now". When I hit "Install now" the
EULA comes up asking the accept or decline
acknowledgment, then nothing. It never starts downloading
even after all night. I have a cable modem and no other
problems with downloads.
Also, when I have tried to "C:\Windows\Windows Update
Setup Files\ie6setup.exe" /c:"ie6wzd.exe /d /s:""#E" to
reinstall IE6, again nothing. HELP?

I am having the same problem on win 98. Cannot install
win updates, cannot run live update on Norton (giving me
an error that I have no products to update) and cannot
click on a url link, if I do ie starts to open then
nothing.
