I know this has been asked before but I need some help.
Why do the ICONS show up in my favorites when I bookmark
a page, but go away never to show up again. All my Icons
are now window IE default page Icon.

Thanks in advance.

It's a Microsoft thang. You can find third-party utilities that will
get around it, but for most people it's really more trouble than it's
worth.

My own gripe with IE favorites has to do with the inane way IE
stores them.. Instead of simply using one HTM file (like Netscape),
each favorite is stored in its own disk file (which, depending on the
cluster size of your hard drive, wastes ridiculous amounts of space).
Here's an example of the Favorites folder on my system:

Size: 81.7 KB (83,737 bytes)

Size on disk: 15.6 MB (16,416,768 bytes)

Rick.....
Your comment... "It's a Microsoft thang" ...is UNTRUE.
See this site for FAQ's: www.favicon.com

Your comment..."the inane way IE stores them"...
"favicons" are stored in the Temp internet file.
3rd party programs copy favicons to different file.
"favorites" are stored in your favorites file.

The reason that "favicon" is in the Temp internet file is
because everything from websites goes to the Temp
internet file. Key word here is "Temp". Have you looked
in the Temp internet file?
There are gif image files...script files...html
files...midi files...and yes links to your "cookies" file.
Some "favicons" are even html files.

The size of your faviorites file depends on how many
favorites you have.
Each "favicon" can be 1-2 KB
300 "favorites" can be 60+ KB (300 = lots of sites)
(favorites can be "directories" on your own computer)

Known as "favicon"
When you clear the Temporary Internet Files
the favicon is cleared. If your TIF size is
small (1-5mb) then over time the favicon will
be kicked out in favor of new one.

Find these FREE programs:
FAVORG or FAVICONIZER
These will save the icons in a different
folder and fixes your favorites
with the favicon icons.

One workaround I've used is to export Favorites using IE's
export function, which produces a single, Netscape-style
HTML file. Then add that local file to your Favorites and
delete all the individual favorites files. In addition to
reclaiming MB's of disk space it makes it much easier to
search for specific url components. Just load it into
Notepad and run a standard search.
