I type an apostrophe, a rectangle appears in it's place

Hello. I send an email from Outlook 2007, if it comes back with a reply, I
have noticed that everywhere I had typed an apostrophe is a rectangle
instead. What is this? Thank you for your time, it's one of those dumb
little things that is driving me nuts.

it's an encoding issue. Are you using the default font in Outlook? Do you
have smart quotes enabled in Word? tools, options, spelling tab,
autocorrect button, autocorrect button (different one), autoformat as you
type.
