I need to format and reinstall XP Professional for a friend

I need your help in understanding how to format and reinstall Windows XP
Professional. My friend Jon has limited funds and needs to be able to do
this himself. I cannot help him by going there because he lives too far
away. I have a dual-boot with 98 Second Edition for old Dos games and
applications on a C:\ drive while having Windows XP Professional as my D:\
drive for regular business and most current games and programs like Itunes.
I know it is easy in 98 Second Edition to go into DOS and format and then use
the start up disk and reinstall the operating system. How is this
accomplished in XP Professional. I have had to do an overinstall of XP
Professional because of Blue Screens of Death associated with a sound card
and other issues. Unfortunately, for me I did not have the original set up
password and used a password cracking program that allowed me to reinstall XP
but I lost all my data. Fortunately, it is mainly an inconvience of losing
access to user name and passwords of an on-line bank account and an on-line
credit card account. Anyway, please help me so I can help John.

To reformat a partition and install a fresh copy of Windows XP, just boot to
the CD. Options to repartition or reformat are part of the procedure.

But first... Why does your friend think Windows needs to be completely
reinstalled? Does he have a way to back up his personal files, etc.?
