I lost my Start Menu and all Icons on my computer

Hello,
Recently I started up my computer and my Icons were all gone along with
the entire task bar at the bottom including the start menu. The wallpaper
was still there but that is it. The only thing that I can do is
Cntl-Alt-Delete and go to the task manager and start new process to get
online. I cannot however, use Windows Explorer for some reason it says it
isn't there or typed correctly. Sounds like a major error. I have used
Chkdsk to see if anything came up but nothing showed out of place. I have
tried to go to Kellys-korner and didn't find what I was looking for or any
kind of help. Can anyone help me?

Are you running WinXP SP2? SP3?

You said "recently" in your first post: How long ago did this first happen?

What's your oldest available Restore Point?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)?
