I have been infected with the Sasser worm virus or its variants

When i try to turn my computer on i get the error message "lsass.exe
failed to intialize properly. Press ok to terminate." And after I click
ok I'm still at a black screen. I'm running windows xp sp2 and i've
tried booting in safe mode and ctrl+alt+delete when i get the error and
nothing happens. I have norton antivirus and windows defender and
everything is up to date. How can i fix this problem if i can't turn my
computer on all the way

i'm sure that an mvp will have a solution. but i would think since sasser
corrupts a vital windows system file, that repairing your windows with the
setup cd may get you back online. i think that microsoft also has an update
against the sasser, so updating windows asap is vital. it is very strange
that norton did stop the infection... but i think mcafee has something
called stinger - like a wasp stinging a worm for the brood....

I'm not so sure that it's a virus..trying running a chkdisk..(or whatever
it's called these days), Right click your local drive>properties>
tools>error checking>check now>put a check in both boxes>click start>okay
and reboot the computer.

if you can get hold of a copy of win xp disk
boot to it them go through the setup until you get to the install options
choose to repair the instalation at the command prompt type 'chkdsk /r /f
this may restore it to a working state for you.
No promisis though.

Good luck

Jason
