Can't get an answer posting as "system tray"
i get the Windows default "critical stop" sound when the items in system
tray are loading. .
went into control panel, sounds and audio and found no program or file that
sound is associated with. . .
just under "windows".. . how can i find out which item is causing the
error???
Thanks in advance for any help. . .oh! I installed service pack 2 a week ago
but everything seems to be ok. . .except it seems to take an excessive time
loading and i get a "black" screen for a short period of time. . . .thanks
for any help. . .. Gene (R Foltz)

Use msconfig to disable startup programs one by one and that will let you
find which one cause the sound. Hope it helps

You can also download REGMON from www.sysinternals.com, set the option to
start when boot-up (also read the help file), and reboot the system.

When the system reboots, everything that accesses the registry will be
logged. Including anyone accessing the registry key containing the
'critical stop.wav' file. From that output, you should be able to find out
what app looked up that key to 'ding' you.
