I.E. finicky

Ok, this afternoon out of the blue, IE stopped working
right. Anytime I try to open a link through another
program, eg. like an update or add on link from any other
program other than IE, everything from trying to retrieve
mail from msn, the works . no programs will open it. I
have to maually open IE and search for the links I was
suppost to be directed to. I have ran Spy-bot, Ad-aware
and PC-Cilin antivirus nothing shows. I've uninstalled and
reinstalled a few programs (Yahoo, Msn, Winamp,Adobe
Acrobat Evrsoft 1st page etc.) making sure to check and
clean for any bad files, personally(manually)cleaned the
regristry, removed XP SP2 and reinstalled IE 6 SP1 and
still doing the same thing, probably goin to relaod winxp
tommorrow if I don't get a useful responce. Please help
