I dont want Windows Mail

Could someone tell me how to disenable it? I want to use AOL as my default
mail program however when I click an email link on Internet Explorer, it
comes up with Windows Mail.
I want to completely override its control. I have gone to custom programs
and did everything you would. It works fine on my XP machine but not on this
vista computer as this one actually has the dreadful Windows Mail.

I'd really appreciate it if anyone could help me.

You will have to ask AOL tech support how to set AOL Mail as the default
email service. The problem is that AOL Mail will probably not show up
in Default Programs as a selectable program, nor will it know how to
grab Vista's MailTo protocol.

Attempting to disable Windows Mail will not solve anything.

Thank you very much for your reply
I have contact AOL and all 3 consultants have got no clue.
I attempted to go to the protocol page to change everything that opens via
windows mail to AOL and that does absolutely nothing.
Right now I have uninstalled it but recently my computer restarted for
updates and windows mail just popped up outta nowhere. It has a life of its
own.
On the default programs page, AOL is not listed. I figured if I could add
it, my problems would be solved.
I have gone to custom programs and uncheck the box for "enable this program"
beside windows mail like I did for outlook on my XP computer but still
nothing. It still comes up.
I have actually tried to do it from the aol software itself, but windows
mail still comes up.

I'd appreciate any more insights. Its very frustrating.

The problem is that Windows MUST have a default email program
designated, and AOL Mail doesn't know how to register itself with
the operating system (Vista) so that it can become the default.
Your experience with AOL support reinforces my belief that they
are totally incompetent, and can't even support their own software.
Your only hope is to find an AOL users group where someone
may have figured out a workaround.

One theoretical solution is to install AOL Instant Messenger, and
designate it as the default email program. I've never tried it, and
have no idea whether it will work, but Yahoo Mail does a similar
thing with Yahoo Messenger.

I'd try that. Thanks for your help
