I cannot send email

Apologies if I've already posted this question...it hasn't come up yet and I'm wondering if I accidentally deleted it?! I cannot send email from Outlook Express. They accumulate in the outbox waiting to be sent and then the following message comes up

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'msnews.microsoft.com', Server: 'smtp.telus.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0

First thing to check Tim is that the details in the SMTP box of your account
is correct. The next thing is does your isp require outgoing authorisation
before sending mail? Not all Isp's require outgoing authorisation for mail,
but some do. Can you send any email at all? I'm talking emails here not
newsgroup posts? If you can send emails but not newsgroup post you need to
check your log in details on your newsgroup accounts.

That sounds as if your mail account is incorrectly set up. Presuming
Outlook Express, go to Tools - Accounts, Mail, select it and take
Properties. Look at the connections page. It sounds to me as if the
'Account' there is set as msnews.microsoft.com (which is the name of the
server for these news groups). It would want to be (e-mail address removed), or
however the ISP specifies for your mail account with them

'msnews.microsoft.com' is not a mail account, it's a newsserver.
