I cannot open excel attachment from outlook 2007 in Vista

I am using Windows Vista, I was able to open the excel attachment direct from
the mail of Outlook 2007 (version 6.0.6001 Service Pack 1 Build 6001) before
but somehow one day I opened a mail with an excel attachment, the system did
open the excel program but then with a pop up message "The system cannot find
the file specified'. However, there is no affect on e-mails with word
attachment, I can just double clik the attachement and opens the word
attachment but not anymore the excel attachment!

I have this probem too. Tried the temp folder clearout - no joy. Nice tools
by the way. Been Googling for an hour - nothing. If I right click Excel
attachments I have Open and Preview - if I click Open nothing happens
(Preview is fine). I am on Outlook 2007 and Windows 7 RC.

Problem solved. Silly error - Windows 7 had somehow lost it's file
association to xls files. Outlook 2007 didn't dispaly an error when I clicked
"open" - which is what threw me - might be a windows 7 RC bug.

Sometimes an easy way to tell if it the culprit is Outlook is to open it in
safe mode:

Start > Run > outlook.exe /safe

This disables any intgration/interference in Outlook from Add Ins, third
party applications, etc.

In addition, checking your Application Event Viewer for any Outlook and/or
Office errors is helpful too.

I had a similar problem start showing up suddenly on XP professional running
Office 2003. Only Excel spreadsheet attachments couldn't be opened. I had to
save it somwhere, open Excel and then open the file from the Files Menu. The
following Excel setting helped me
