HP OfficeJet Series 600 installation with XP operating system

I have recently installed the Windows XP Operating System
and have been unable to get my PC to recognize my printer
(HP OfficeJet Series 600).

Solutions I have tried include:
Down loading the XP compatable printer software and
driver from the HP site.
Powering Down, reconnecting printer, all the basis stuff.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I'd recommend you first disconnect the printer from your computer and then
uninstall anything HP related to this device and reboot your computer.

Once you are logged back on, plug in the printer. When you are prompted to
locate the driver - point to where the latest drivers are located and see if
you just install the driver alone. If there is nothing for you to point to,
follow the HP instructions for installation. Some devices want to the
software installed before the device is even connected to the computer - so
be sure.
