windows has suddenly decided to make me logon at startup,. it did'nt used to
& I am the only user. it therefore now takes longer to get the computer
running as I can't just turn on and wander off for a bit. Is there a way to
get rid the login process at startup?

Visit the Windows Update web site and download the available critical update
for .NET Framework. After installing it and rebooting, the Welcome Screen
will no longer appear if you do not have a password for your account.

The Welcome to Windows screen appears when you start Windows XP
after you install the .NET Framework 1.1

You can also use the following steps to enable automatic logon:

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type: control userpasswords2 , and then click OK.
3. In the dialog box that appears, clear the "Users must enter a user name
and password to use this computer" check box, and then click OK.
