How to set up TightVNC as a remote access program?

Hello all,

I downloaded tightVNC from www.tightvnc.com to use as a remote access
program. I want to be able to get access to my work computer from my home
computer. Both are running XP Home and are connected to the internet via
DSL. No additional equipment (servers, networks, firewalls) are involved.

Does anyone know how to set this program up? I downloaded it, but have no
clue how to actually set it up. I can't seem to find any real set up
information on the web site so I'm stuck until I get help from someone...

Thanks in advance...

This is outside the scope of this news group, but...

Install the server on the work PC. Install the client on the home PC. Call the work PC by its public
IP address. If the work PC is behind a firewall/NAT/router then call using the public IP of the
firewall/NAT/router. Note that in that case you need to have TCP Port 5900 forwarded to the LAN IP
of your work PC.

Also note that your work network administrators and/or company policy may preclude you doing this.
Consult with your work network administrators about this.

Additionally, if you want to use VNC over the public internet, its a good idea to either run VNC
through a VPN tunnel or use UltraVNC + its encryption plug-in. The native VNC data stream is *NOT*
encrypted, which presents certain security issues.

Or upgrade the work PC to XP Pro...:)
