How to retain original background copying and pasting

When copying slides and pasting to another presentation, most change to
colour of slides in the latter. Some retain the background. How do I retain
background of all the transferred slides?

In XP on

First make sure that in Tools > Options> Edit you have "paste options
button" ticked. When you paste click this button and choose "keep source
formatting"
