How to reset drum counter in Brother HL-1240 laserprinter?

I have had a reconditioned drum installed by a high-street remanufacturer
(Cartridge World) but the Drum warning LED remains ON. Apparently
instructions for resetting the drum counter are only provided by Brother
in the package of an authentic replacement drum.

If anyone has these instructions I would appreciate being sent a copy.

As an alternative I have tried the Factory Reset procedure as described in
the Brother Support website, but my printer does not respond exactly as it
is supposed to, and the procedure fails.

Open the front door of the printer.
Press the recessed button at the bottom of the row of lights and hold the
button pressed until all of the lights are turned on.
Close the front door.
That should do it.
