How to make Outlook preview pane view multiple messages?

Messages can be selected singularly or, by using "shift" or "ctl" keys,
multiple messages can be selected. However, unlike in Outlook Express, the
Outlook preview pane always shows only the first message selected rather than
the last of multiple messages. Why does Outlook have this limitation but not
OE? Is there a switch somewhere in the software?

Outlook does not support such and option. There is no switch to enable it.

Perform the selection in the opposite direction, starting with the last
message first. Then the Reading Pane will show you the last message instead
of the first in the selection.
