How to find German Spellcheck in Word 2000

Guest

I work in texts that have large chunks of German text. When I use spellcheck,
WORD 2000 puts up a message saying that I don't have the German spellcheck
files installed, and offereing me the chance to install them. It tells me to
insert my disk. But on my disk there are no German proofing tools, just
French and Spanish.
Should German be there?
If not, is it available for sale?

Unless you have a German version of Word, you probably don't have the German
proofing tools, and I'm not sure whether proofing tools for Office 2000 are
still available. See
http://www.microsoft.com/office/previous/2000/worldwide/proofing.asp for
more information and
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Office+2000+Proofing+Tools&btnG=Google+Search
for the relevant Google search. http://www.zjzmpop.co.yu/id3.htm seems to
offer free download of specific languages for Office 2000 (free), but I
would treat this site with caution.

Thanks for the info. It seems that the Microsoft Office Proofing Tools is no
longer available. You say be wary of the site that offers a free download.
I'm not particularly computer savvy, so don't know whether to even go there
and look, or just stay away. Do you have a specific reason to be wary, or
would you say that about any site?

Thanks for the info. From the pages you sent me to, I gather that the Office Proofing Tools CD is no longer available. But you say be wary of the other site that has a download with a similar program. Is this just normal caution, or do you have a particular reason to distrust this site? I don't know whether to even go there - not being particularly computer savvy. I don't know that I'd recognize danger if I saw it.

I'm wary of sites that offer stuff for free, and this one triggered some
kind of funky popup when I went to it. Just a gut reaction.

If you're talking to me, I didn't have this problem, and the information I
provided in my reply is all I know. Since Office 2007 shipped, Office 2000
is out of support, so you'll be even less likely to be able to find the
Proofing Tools package legitimately.

hi Suzanne, than you for your reply, sorry, i'm not sure whom i'm talking to,
i've never used this system before :)

i am aware that you can use proofing tools in any language that Word comes
in; i have an english version of Word 2000, and i have proofing tools in
French and Spanish (these come with the original standard edition of Office
2000)

so i'm often typing up letters mixing English, French and German

i also have enabled my system for the german keyboard so i can type in
german no problem

however, i need the proofing tools 2000 CD as that has the German proofing
tool

i had found that link you sent previously thank you, and have spoken
directly to Microsoft, but they no longer sell it; the challenge is to locate
somebody who has the proofing CD; its probably of little use to most people
as most have upgraded

i'm not looking to obtain it illegally, i'm quite happy to pay for it, and i
want the original microsoft one rather than third party ones that i know are
around

there are also probably resellers out there who have copies sitting in old
boxes in a warehouse and are about to throw them out

its just a matter of trying to track one

thanks again
