How to disable certain sounds

I have WinXP and Internet Explorer 6, both with all updates.

Whenever I open IE6 or click on a link in IE6 that
successfully connects, I get an annoying double-clicking
sound. I asked about this in the general Internet Explorer
news group, where someone suggested that I go to Control
Panel | Sounds & Audio devices, and under Windows Explorer
change the settings for Start Navigation and Complete
Navigation to none.

The trouble is that I had already done that to get rid of
the annoying sounds in Windows Explorer, which it did. In
fact, I have all of the sounds turned off under Windows
Explorer, but I still get the annoying clicks when I use
Internet Explorer.

Is there a way to turn the IE sounds off, short of simply
turning off my sound altogether whenever I use IE?

Thanks.

Turn off the sounds all together and listen if you still get the
double-clicking sound. If you do, it may not be coming thru your
soundcard but thru the internal speaker.

Seems like that is what is happening.

Just to be specific, I went into Control Panel | Sounds tab
| under Sound scheme selected No Sounds.

And I still get the clicking sound.

Why would the internal speaker do this to me? Is there a
solution?

Thanks very much.
