How to disable CD-RW access in XP.

Guest

I would like to disable access to any/all CD-RW/DVD-RW devices in Windows XP
Pro. I read that there are a few methods to disable the built in Windows XP
CD Writing features, however nothing to disable any third party programs from
writing.

Is this possible?

Thanks,

use Google

search for the following words:

edit registry enable write CD-RW

look for and click on the following words:

How to make the "Enable CD recording on this drive" check mark
Or you can edit the registry to manually enable this option.
Run regedit and go to HKey Local User/Software/Microsoft ...

read it, edit the registry, and select
Write Disabled
(instead of enabling write)

There are several measures. For starters:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
"AllocateCDRoms"="1"
"AllocateFloppies"="1"
"AllocateDASD"="1"

does this remove only Write access and still leave Read access,
or does it remove All access ?

correction follows.

use Google, click Groups,

search for the following words:

edit registry enable write CD-RW

everything else remains the same as before.

This method will disable the built in burning capabilities of XP, but not
with any other third party buring programs. Is it possible for this type of
fix to disable even third party programs.
