I had Norton Antivirus 2005 on my computer, however after inadvertantly
opening a malicious email I got infected with a virus which corrupted my
Norton in such a way that I could neither use, uninstall or reinstall it.
After that I tried out a number of free antivirus solutions, including
Windows OneCare Live beta and AVG Free. I am currently on AVG Free.
The problem I am facing is that every time IE downloads a file, it attempts
to scan it using Norton, which no longer is present... so windows installer
starts and it shows "Preparing to Install" folllowed by "Insert the Norton
Antivirus 2005 disk and click OK" dialog boxes. I have to cancel them
(attempting to install fails). This causes the download to fail.
I have a similar experience whenever I try to open any Office document.
Annoying dialog boxes popo up and I have to cancel through them, although I
am able to open the files eventually.
So does anyone know how to de-register a program as the file-scanning
handler for IE and office?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
