How To delete Windows Messenger

D

Daniel

To all that wanted to know how to delete Windows
Messenger running Windows XP home and pro here is the
answer.

go to run in the start menu, and type:

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%
\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

This will remove Windows Messenger 4.7 and you will need
to restart the computer, after that remove all icons, and
the components from thr add/remove features.

When you open outlook express after the restart MSN
Messenger 6.0 won't open, I have to find out on how to
make now MSN 6.0 to be the default, and to now open with
outlook, I'll be getting back to everyone on that soon.

Greetings Daniel,

Although this does work, it's not recommended if you're still using MSN Messenger because if
you do fully remove it, you will be preventing Remote Assistance, Whiteboard, Application
Sharing and any other applications that utilize Messenger from working (or loading without
problems). You can just disable Windows Messenger 4.7, by opening it up, click Tools,
Options, Preferences tab and unchecking 'Run this program when Windows starts'. This won't
stop it from being loaded by some other application though. As well, you can disable it
further by going to Start, Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs, Add/Remove Windows
Components on the left, uncheck Windows Messenger in the components list and click Next >.
Note: this is only available if you've installed Windows XP Service Pack 1 -- if you haven't,
visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com. This won't remove Windows Messenger, but it will
let it stay out of your way, and allow MSN Messenger to work properly.

As well, MSN Messenger 6 cannot be the default in Outlook or Outlook Express, those
applications are designed for Windows Messenger 4 only.
